MISSION STATEMENT
Honeybee’s Adventure Time and Honeybee’s Adventure School were founded on one simple belief:
Childhood should be meaningful, adventurous, and transformative.
We are more than an outdoor program.
We are more than a school.
We are a community committed to raising capable, resilient, creative young humans.
With over a decade of experience working with children, our founder created Honeybee’s as a place where kids are invited to step away from screens and step into real life — into challenge, exploration, creativity, and growth.
At Honeybee’s, we believe children grow best when they are trusted with responsibility and guided through real-world experiences.
We intentionally cultivate:
• A growth mindset
• Independence and self-trust
• Creative and imaginative thinking
• Strong social communication skills
• Emotional resilience
• Leadership and teamwork
Children here are not micromanaged — they are mentored.
They are encouraged to think critically, solve problems, collaborate, and take ownership of their choices.
We believe in preparing children for life — not just academics.
At Honeybee’s Adventure School, education comes alive through hands-on learning. Students engage in life skills, entrepreneurship, outdoor education, teamwork, and creative exploration. Lessons are immersive and experiential — because children remember what they do far more than what they are told.
At Honeybee’s Adventure Time, we take learning into the wild.
Rock climbing.
Kayaking.
Backpacking.
Hiking.
Swimming.
These are not just activities — they are classrooms.
Through guided adventure, children learn proper risk assessment, environmental awareness, leadership, communication, and how to do dangerous things carefully.
We teach them how to evaluate situations.
How to assess their environment.
How to trust instruction.
How to manage fear.
How to make decisions responsibly.
Risk, when taught properly, is one of the most powerful teachers.
Children need opportunities to stretch themselves.
When a child climbs a little higher than they thought they could…
Paddles a little farther…
Hikes a little longer…
They begin to see themselves differently.
Taking healthy risks builds:
• Confidence
• Courage
• Decision-making ability
• Emotional regulation
• Real resilience
We believe in allowing children to fail safely.
Mistakes are not something to avoid — they are something to learn from. At Honeybee’s, children are given space to try, to stumble, to problem-solve, and to try again.
Resilience is not taught through comfort.
It is built through experience.
Nature is one of our greatest teachers.
We intentionally teach children to become good stewards of the earth through:
• Leave No Trace principles
• Environmental awareness
• Survival and outdoor skills
• Respect for wildlife and land
• Responsibility in shared spaces
We want children to understand that adventure and stewardship go hand in hand.
At the heart of Honeybee’s is authentic mentorship.
Our founder strives to live the same standards she asks of the children:
To be honest.
To be accountable.
To be brave.
To be kind.
To be real.
Children do not need perfect role models.
They need consistent, loving, grounded adults who model growth mindset in their own lives.
We believe in leading by example — admitting mistakes, learning out loud, setting healthy boundaries, and showing up with integrity.
Honeybee’s is built on connection, trust, and community.
Honeybee’s is for families who value:
• Independence over dependency
• Growth over perfection
• Experience over passivity
• Character over convenience
For parents who want their children to be capable — not coddled.
Creative — not confined.
Resilient — not fragile.
For kids who are ready to explore, imagine, build, lead, and grow.
Childhood is not something to rush through.
It is something to build upon.
We believe:
Confidence comes from doing hard things.
Character is built through responsibility.
Growth requires risk.
And the best classrooms don’t always have four walls.

How does club work? / What do we do in club?
I set up hikes for the month and send out a schedule at the beginning of the month. Parents drop off their children at the locations and then pick them up at the same location when club ends. Locations change each month. Mostly we will hike and explore, along with free play. Sometimes survival skills or lessons are mixed in. Occasionally in warmer months we host overnight campouts. We also offer swimming in warmer months (lifejackets and water shoes are a non-negotiable necessity for this activity)
Club is for kids aged 5-15; age 4 with an adult
I have been a teacher in Outdoor Education for the past 12 years and I currently teach 1-10th graders, I have a homeschool collective that teaches vocational, life skills and focuses on adventure based learning. I also have a background in Spanish and gardening education. I am a teacher, wilderness first responder, CPR certified and I have a fingerprint clearance card. I have over 8 years as a Wilderness First Responder. My legal name is Melissa Slayton but I prefer to be called by my forest name, Honeybee. I have been an avid outdoor adventurer my whole life, from river rafting, mountain biking, backpacking, camping, hiking, paddling and more.
To provide children a safe and loving place to explore nature, gain confidence and make friends. Teaching children to love themselves and nature is our goal. We hike, play and explore our nature world, while learning to respect the earth and each other. We hope to build a tribe of community and love, and give children the independance to grow in their skills. We believe in doing 'dangerous' things carefully.
